051008 Quakes Second Goal
Goal! San Jose finally scored a goal for the home fans. Two goals in fact, but still no win. Pictured above is Columbus Crew goalkeeper William Hesmer being beaten for San Jose's second goal. The goal scored by Ryan Johnson just made the score look better for the Quakes. (photo by Jonathan Arellano)

It is almost more than a man can take. Just look at those Columbus guys. One could think that they had just won the world cup if it were not for San Jose's "stand free southern border" in the background. Somebody needs to tell them that they just beat the new Earthquakes. Perhaps they should be reminded that they just made hard work of beating a slower-a-foot expansion team. Or... perhaps they are just happy to escape the embarrassment of being beaten. [Read More...]
QuakeMagic.com Editorial.Quakes Not ''That'' Anything
An old sports cliche comes to mind when pondering the last two Quakes matches... "You're never as good as you think when you win and you are never as bad as you think when you lose." This old saying describes the Quakes perfectly. The Quakes looked very good in their victory over Colorado, but not "that" good. They looked bad in their loss in New York, but not "that" bad. The good news is that Frank Yallop's squad is closer to looking "that" good and here is why. [Read More...]
041208_Don GagliardiCongratulations Soccer Sillicon Valley!
It was so agonizing, wasn't it? The Quakes came so close to pulling a tie out of a loss. Thanks to the efforts of Soccer Silicon Valley we get to suffer through more Quakes losses... and I love it. SSV first led the fight to keep the Quakes in San Jose and then fought on to bring the club back. Fittingly SSV President Don Gagliardi walked out onto the field with a MLS trophy held high. He had the look of a champion and he is.... well done! [Read More...]
041208_too_earlyToo Late, Too Early ... No Goals
The Quakes are clearly a work in progress. That said, there are signs that the players are taking to Frank Yallop's proved version of the 4-4-2 system. Defensively, midfielders effectively position themselves between the ball and opposing strikers. Offensively, crosses go flying into the penalty box from all angles; however, instead of knocking the ball into the net Quakes forwards are arriving too late or left looking back after being there too soon as pictured here. 041208_Brian_Holmes''No Class'' Fire Ruin Pregame Introductions
The Fire has never been a team to dislike. That is until player introductions prior to the first MLS game in the Bay Area for two seasons. Led by captain Cuauhtemoc Blanco the Fire completely threw the Quakes introductions for a loop as they began the pregame hand-shaking before the home team could be properly introduced to the fans. That was a completely classless act of disrespect that makes a mockery of any handshaking before during or after the match. Just ask the guy pictured to the left. [Read More...]
